Whether you’re travelling in Winter under the Northern Lights, or Summer during the time of the Midnight Sun, the Hurtigruten Classic Voyage along Norway’s stunning and rugged coastline is a joy like no other. There are 4 options to choose from.

The complete classic voyage takes 12 days, but there are also 7-day (northbound) and 6-day (southbound) options if you don’t have time for a full voyage. Some highlights occur only on northbound sailings, others only on southbound voyages. Similarly with the optional excursions which vary depending on the time of year and whether you are travelling north or south. For details of these excursions, check out the online Excursions brochure.

A 12-day return trip round voyage north and south is your best option to avoid missing anything. There’s also an 11-day return trip, called the Discovery voyage, which is almost identical to the Classic Round cruise.  Please review the Classic Round Voyage section below for details but bear in mind you leave the ship one day early, in Trondheim, and take a beautiful train journey back to Oslo, instead of returning to Bergen.

Have a look at the Hurtigruten Norway route itinerary and there are more day-by-day details included in the Explore Norway online brochure (from which the information below is also taken). To help you decide which Norwegian cruise is best for you, read on.

The Ultimate Hurtigruten Voyage: 12 day Classic Round Voyage (Bergen – Kirkenes – Bergen)

When you don’t want to miss anything, you choose the 12-day voyage, covering 2500 nautical miles of stunning coastal nature. Along with the scenery en route, it is the sheer variety of sights, sounds, scents and surprises that make the voyage such a delight. The ship visits 34 ports, delivering freight and local passengers to places seldom visited by others not travelling on the ship. With Hurtigruten, you can explore these remote communities, from the temperate waters of the south to the cooler seas above the Arctic Circle. By doing this, you will feel that you become a part of local Norway. This voyage has been dubbed “The World’s Most Beautiful Sea Voyage” by Lonely Planet.
