Antarctic Explorer Travel with Hurtigruten – 2021 / 2022 / 2023

CORONAVIRUS UPDATE: Hurtigruten plans to restart expedition cruises in early 2021 with even stricter Covid-19 measures in place. This will include testing for all guests. As of 03/08/2020, Hurtigruten has temporarily suspended all expedition sailings on MS Roald Amundsen, MS Fridtjof Nansen and MS Spitsbergen until further notice. In September it was decided to cancel all Antarctica departures for Winter 2020/21 season. Antarctic voyages will resume in October 2021.

The most remote continent on Earth is unlike anything you’ve ever experienced. This short video tells you all you need to know before travelling to Antarctica.
Roughly twice the size of Australia, the continent is the fifth largest with its 14 million square kilometres of land mass. Most of this – 98% – is covered in ice. As a result, there are neither permanent residents nor native inhabitants in Antarctica. However, about 4000 people stay on scientific bases in the short summer period and around 1000 in total during the winter months. Additionally, around 30 000 tourists visit during the Antarctic summer from December to March.
Note: we will update prices and offers on this website when regular sailings resume. In the meantime, please contact us for a quotation.

MS Roald Amundsen (2019) and MS Fridtjof Nansen (2020) are the world’s first hybrid cruise ships. They lead the way towards an even more sustainable way of travelling. Emissions and noise are cut by sailing with electrical propulsion – good for the atmosphere and the sea life. Innovative sustainable technology reduces fuel consumption and CO2-emissions on the ships by 20 percent. The ships are specially constructed for voyages in polar waters, so you can glide silently past icebergs and wildlife.
All cabins are outside, 50% have private balconies and some suites feature their own outdoor hot tub. Facilities also include 3 restaurants, Science Centre, Explorer Loung, gym and wellness centre including a sauna, outdoor Observation Deck with infinity pool and hot tubs.
